The Need for Spokespersons

by Erik Evangelista

"And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it , they removed, and stood afar off.
And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die."
- Exodus 20:18-19 (KJV)
People would say, Why won't God speak to us, rather than understand the teachings of the Bible with regard to the sending of prophets and apostles (Luke 11:49). In the Old Testament, God did speak personally to them. A voice came from heaven, and the Ten Commandments were given to them, orally. And how did the people receive this? They asked that God not speak to them that way anymore. That God should just speak to Moses, and then Moses would relay to them the message of God. They said, hearing God speak like that again, would surely cause them death!

And now, God speaks through His sent ones. Now, we hear scoffers say that God should speak for Himself. Well, the Bible shows that He tried that, but the experience is much more terrifying. God does not want us scared to death; He wants us saved from damnation.
