“It’s the end of the world as we know it.
It’s the end of the world as we know it.
It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine,”
so goes the 80′s song of a secular rock group, R.E.M. But as we can see, the world did not end in the 80′s. Our world, as we know it, is still here and intact. The rock band from Georgia disbanded last year, but the talk about the end of the world remained as popular as ever. And just recently, it is once again, back in the headlines. Thanks to the extinct Mayan calendar, which predicts that our world is going to end (for the umpteenth time!) today, the 21st of December 2012. This prediction has created so much buzz around the world that even the National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA had to issue an official statement about the subject saying,
“The world will not end in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.”
